There is no doubt that CHANGE is in the air. There is the CHANGE touted unrelentlessly by one presidential candidate, and then there is the CHANGE, re-labelled as REFORM, touted by the other. And then there is the CHANGE of the greatest kind, the CHANGE in one sad sod's life that brings about a long-lost thrill of beautiful uncertainty and hope. This is the CHANGE I'm devoured by. I am anxious. Hopeful. Excited. Nervous. Scared. It's CHANGE, by golly. And any real CHANGE is always terrifying. It's a breaking of tradition of years of comfortable personal habits. It's saying goodbye to a former life, and it's saying great big hello to a new one.
I'm thinking about Rosh Hashanah, and how my Jewish friends will be celebrating a New Year, and pondering their lives as they were this past year, making amends, living life anew. I'm thinking about how, on this high holy day, I will be starting my new life, with the one I love, making amends with my past, and starting down a fresh path. I am so full of emotion, I feel like my heart will burst.
This October, I am not alone. CHANGE has rooted like a weed in those around me, spreading low and fast among the hearts that are open to it. It's an interesting time for us. I look forward to every second, never taking any of it for granted. We all seem to be brought back together, to these moments of CHANGE. Beautiful, uncertain. We are all in this together.
I love you. I love us.
